Conference and Excursion
This year's Conference is to be in the South of France from 24 - 27 September; its theme is 'EROS and PSYCHE: Recovering the Inner Marriage of Body and Soul', with an inspiring guest presenter, Estaryia, and full supporting programme of members' workshop. Our optional Three-Day Excursion is to gorgeous parts of Provence.
Don’t forget that IDMA members get a substantial discount on conferences, so this is a good place to slip in a plangent note to Members from our Treasurer, Jen Kershaw that “your Annual Subscription to the IDMA is now due” so please take the opportunity to renew your membership.
Congratulations to Brenda Blair on the dazzling IDMA website launched in 2008.
Members, you are of course eligible for your profile and photo to appear, and for links to be made to your own websites for advertising workshops or merchandise. (Reminder to members: we need some decent photos of you! If you don’t want us to scour the archives for louche pictures of you misbehaving at IDMA parties, you had better hurry. You have been warned!)
The first edition of the IDMA Magazine has now sold out, but we still have printed copies of the IDMA Magazines #2 and #3, each containing a wealth of interesting material. Order them from Jen Kershaw, our Treasurer at jenkershaw@aol.com
Hoping to see you in Provence in September, under the shade of the fig trees with a glass of wine!

This year’s healing conference, set in the heart of the ancient Roman vineyards of Provence inevitably invokes the spirit of the Greco-Roman god Dionysus and his ecstatic dancing followers, the Maenads. Our talented guest presenter, Estaryia, whose mission is to reconnect people with the Earth through sound harmonics and movement, will teach us the ensoulment of our bodies with her powerful vibrational techniques to open our energy fields to joyful expression. Juanita Puddifoot will help us tune into our subtle bodies and Mark and Roger will honor the art of drama, also sacred to Dionysus, in a provocative psychodrama to explore the eros connection that rules the “inner marriage” of masculine and feminine. Roger will also treat us to a slide show on the Sacred Marriage called “The Spirit of Dionysus in Art and Life.” As usual we will celebrate in truly Dionysian fashion on Saturday night with dance, wild dress-up and of course a little wine--the very best Cotes du Rhone from the local villages, Gigondas, Vacqueras and Beaumes de Venises!
Thursday Afternoon
Arrival in Avignon, transfer to Villedieu
A minibus will meet all TGV trains at from Paris or Marseilles arriving Avignon TGV station between 2.00 pm and 6.00 pm Thursday afternoon. Arrivals at Avignon airport on the 13.00 pm Flybe flight from the UK will need to take the transfer bus to the TGV station.
Friday Morning Workshop:
Illuminated Bodies
with Juanita Puddifoot
Juanita’s morning workshop is designed to help us expand our sensory awareness of our subtle energy systems and get more fully in touch with our “illuminated bodies.” Focusing on less commonly used senses such as skin, breath and energy points in a series of paired exercises can deeply enhance our awareness of the subtle vibrations of colour, shape, smell, texture, sound, emotions and memories. We will celebrate the collective subtle energies we encounter in a culminating group exercise.
Friday Afternoon Psychodrama:
Eros and the Inner Marriage
with Mark Wentworth and Roger Woolger
Mark and Roger will lead us in a provocative sociodrama/psychodrama exploring the eros patterns implicit in our dating, sex, courtship and partnering behaviours. How we relate to the opposite sex is not just cultural tradition but is rooted in the archetype of the marriage of masculine and feminine we all carry within us. Be prepared for more than a few giggles, a blush or two and a lot of fun. The culminating ceremony will blow you away.
Friday Evening Slide Show:
The Spirit of Dionysus in Art and Life
with Roger Woolger
Roger Woolger will treat us to a dazzling slide show on the theme of Sacred Marriage using poetry and music. He has collected images and texts from Tantric India, Taoist China, the Christian and Sufi mystics and the sublime troubadours of Provence , whose Dionysian spirit is all around us.
Saturday All Day Keynote Workshop:
The Divine Union
with Estaryia
Estaryia is a sound and movement educator and sacred dance artist who will lead an all day workshop on the Divine Union. This will be an experiential and transformational workshop using shamanic breath, sound healing & movement practices designed to further open energy channels in the body, inspire creativity, balance our brain waves, create deep states of relaxation and awaken a deep sense of the union of body, soul and spirit.
Sunday Morning

Join us after the Conference to see some of the beauties of Provence
Guided by Roger Woolger (an habitué of Provence for 40 years)
Ever since the Roman emperor Augustus chose Arles for his summer palace, and made it Rome’s first province (hence Provence) this rich region has attracted travellers, and writers, troubadours and artists to its wondrous light, its subtle sun drenched landscapes and its wild mountains. Dante was awed by the cavernous Fountaines de Vaucluse, making it his entrance to the Inferno, Gauguin and Van Gogh adored the glory of its colours, its field and trees, Pagnol celebrated its village life, and journalists and filmmakers continue to fall in love with its gentle charms.
On Sunday after meandering through the finest Cotes du Rhone vineyards we will visit the Fontaines of Vaucluse and the lovely Abbey of Senanque with its lavender fields. Our hotel in Aix en Provence is at the hub of this gem of a city, an easy walk to old town of tiny streets and its charming squares, restaurants and markets.
On Monday, after allowing a morning to stroll the markets and shops, lunch at leisure, we drive across the flood plain of the Rhone to St. Remy and the poignant little asylum where Van Gogh spent his last days and painted so many masterpieces. The little museum replicates his room; you can walk among the olive groves and fields he painted. We arrive in Arles , the Emperor’s capital with its arena and ancient burial ground, the Alyscamps (=Elysian fields). An evening to explore the old town, take a pastisse (aniseed) in a quiet cafe in the shade of the plane trees and dinner in a small restaurant.
Tuesday morning we visit the the Alyscamps and the Museum of Antiquities, one of the finest collections of Roman and early Christian remains in Europe . Then a short drive through the Camargue, replete with flamingos and white horses, to Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, the gypsy capital with its revered Black Madonna, Sara-Kali in the crypt of the tiny 12th century church. Legend has it that Mary Magdalene and other early followers of Jesus brought a servant, black Sara, with them from the Holy Land ; the Roma say otherwise. Dinner close to the seafront then back to Arles , where café life continues on into the balmy night.
On Wednesday the coach will return travellers to Avignon to meet TGVs to Paris or make other connections.
